Last Day of Flag Canvassing! =)
yayy! haha. after weeks of travelling to industrial parks all over Singapore, countless repetitions of our standardised scripts, thousands of rejections, hundreds of namecard-collecting, free drinks (usually courtesy of haojie =p), getting freaked out by large dogs and lots of walking under the hot sun, flag canvassing is finally over!
after all, the efforts we have put in, going into every single office possible and asking people for donations, is not something that we'll do everyday. we understand how people in these offices feel. after all, everyone feels that the government is rich. why on earth should they donate when they cant even be sure that the money they donate will be put entirely to good use? however, even after griping on about how bad business is and how the whole charity scene seems dubious nowadays, quite a number still donate and i'm really very grateful to these people.
not because they're helping us increase the amount of collections we have; not because this helps us get one step nearer to "help Sheares Hall win the chancellor's shield" or whatever (seriously, how many of us bother about it at the end of everything? we're just doing it because we want to help as much as we can. partly also because our school has this activity which was made into a competition and everyone wants to win. the fact that we're in this committee spells the hidden fact that we are supposed to go around trying to collect as much money as we can. [no offense but really, other than having flag days organised by schools, i wonder how many of us wld actually go ard asking the public for donations like that.] ); and definitely not because they are helping us to avoid treating everyone else to drinks during lunch. lol.
i dun think i'll ever know the main reason behind them donating but i'm grateful to them for believing in us and actually parting with some money to help the charity organisations/us. everyone says that business is bad and stuff. and yet they still donate. any amount given is really greatly appreciated but the thought behind it just makes them even more respected. to me, at least. heh.
i admit that it has been an enriching experience. but i also admit even more readily that i'm happy that this is finally over. hahas.
